What if the son of a president had the best qualifications to be president (and the best ideas) of any man alive?

Also, isn’t it unfair (and undemocratic) to disqualify someone for office just because he happens to be related to someone who held that office?

Why not just let the best man or woman have the job. I’m pretty sure there are far better reasons not to vote for Jeb Bush other than just that he happens to be related to George Bush Jr. and Sr.

Steve, that's a valid point. It's also hypothetical ("What if...").

IMO it's highly unlikely that the son or daughter of a past president would be better qualified than any person alive. But I will grant that it might be hypothetically possible.

In this particular case, however, the argument is against perpetuating a political dynasty centered around one family. Note the question "Is there really no one else?"

I would strenuously argue that there are several more qualified people to be president than Jeb Bush (or Hillary Clinton, or Michelle Obama...) - Scott Walker, Paul Ryan, even Ted Cruz, to name just a few.

I would also argue that there are much more electable candidates than Jeb Bush. A candidate with the name "Bush" is guaranteed to bring out the democrat voters in droves - just as a candidate named "Clinton" or "Obama" will rally republican troops to the cause.

We only have to look at the Kennedys to see the dangers of a political family dynasty.

My vote would be for Walker. He's proven that he could bring a state from red to black ink even with the battles and law suits against him. Proves he has a back bone and guts to fight.

Sadly the 'good' folks don't/won't run. THEY are smart enough NOT to get their entire lives, their families and everything about them spread far and wide...

If he gets the nomination, I will continue my unbroken string of not voting for anyone named Bush.

Mel - those are exactly the reasons I like Walker.

NFO - sadly, you're right. The only reason someone runs for office these days is to gain power and influence, not to improve this country.

WSF - I understand your position. I pulled the lever for both, but is was as much voting against their opponents as it was voting for them.

I have'nt voted FOR someone since Regan. Voted against a whole lot of them.
