Forecast for tonight and tomorrow:
Just when you thought this winter couldn't get any worse---the National Weather Service has issued a warning for 'Thundersleet' tonight into tomorrow morning.
"Thundersleet"?!? WTF is Thundersleet?
"Thundersleet" is defined as a 'rare weather pattern' which occurs when 'thunder and lightning occur at the same time as sleet or freezing rain.'
Tuesday morning's commute is expected to include slippery roads, freezing bridge decks, and limited visibility.
And then, true to form, we'll be back into the seventies by Thursday.
Hanging on the hooks in my closet right now are a winter coat and a pair of shorts. I'll wear one tomorrow and the other the next day...

Thunder sleet is in between thunderstorms and thunder snow. Come on up to north Texas and we'll introduce to freezing fog!
In fact, last NTX storm had thundersleet and freezing fog. Or maybe it was the storm before that. All this global warming has made the ice storms run together this winter.
I can't tell you how many times the DFW weather people have pontificated about the difference between sleet and freezing rain. Thundersleet sounds so dark and dangerous. I kinda prefer it.
Nice, warm & sunny here in North Carolina.
Heck, it's even better here than Florida. Florida temperatures might be higher,
BUT
They got rid of Trayvon's bros here decades ago.
The local anthem is: "Hang a xxxxxx on the old oak tree."
Heh... Yep 'interesting' weather this year... And 'I' was stupid enough to leave Hawaii early to come back- to 7 inches of snow and 20 degrees this morning... sigh
Mel - We've had freezing fog down here once or twice. That's enough for me.
Harper - don't forget graupel. We had some of that last week.
Toejam - There was ice on the roads this morning. But the forecast for Thurs. through the weekend is sunny and in the 70s...
NFO - you win the 'from one extreme to the other' award.
