Weekend Update

Over the weekend my grandkids participated in the local FFA Livestock Show. The grandson's goat was entered in the heavyweight division, but didn't place.

On the other hand, the granddaughter's goat Taquito was named Reserve Grand Champion in the lightweight division. (The goat had to do well. Otherwise it was going to end up as the filling in a Mexican food dish of the same name.)

Even better, she won the buckle for Grand Champion of Showmanship.

Of course, that means I now have to buy her a new belt to put it on...

How did the grandkids get involved with kids, you ask?

The first thing they had to learn was Rule #1 of goat-raising.

Unlike some of my students, they met that threshold.

Anyway, it was a great weekend for the extended family, and we're all very proud of our kids, grandkids, and goats.

That's a sentence I never thought I'd write...

Ah, that takes me back to our 4H days. My kids did rifelry, horsemanship, photography, lambs, pigs, etc. We went to many a horse show and rodeo. My daughter did well with her lamb at the county fair, but pig did not make bacon.

BB - Good for you and your kids. IMO organizations like FFA and 4H teach kids what it reallytakes to be successful.

NFO - life can be funny sometimes.
