Racism Is Alive And Well

In 2008 95% of black voters cast their ballots for obama. That figure dropped to 'only' 93% in 2012. So what did black Americans get for such overwhelming support?

Not much.
According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report and Census Bureau figures, blacks have lost ground in income, employment, and education under Obama. Black Leftist pundit Travis Smiley had to admit, “The data is going to indicate sadly that when the Obama administration is over, black people will have lost ground in every single leading economic indicator category.”
Obama's daughters attend DC's prestigious Sidwell Friends school where achievement standards are very high. So why has Obama been relentless in his attempts to kill a DC voucher program which gives poor parents a choice of better schools for their kids? The mainstream media does not want you to know that black and Hispanic parents protested in front of the capitol against Obama trying to shut down their school voucher program. Isn't it reasonable to question why this self-proclaimed savior of the poor and minorities would do such a thing?
(Hint: public school unions are big democrat/obama supporters.)

More:
"Gains under the Obama administration by all students range between minimal and nonexistent, and the black-white gap on test scores threatens to widen after having narrowed steadily over the previous nine years," Paul E. Peterson, professor of government at Harvard University, wrote in The Wall Street Journal.

Between 1999 and 2008, white 9-year-olds gained 11 points in math, while black student performance rose by 13 points. In reading, black performance gained 18 points. However, from 2008 to 2012 those gains slowed, with scores rising just two points in each subject for 9-year-old African-Americans.

... if Obama were white, it is likely he would receive more vocal criticism from the black community. Yet despite Obama's failure to deliver on his promise of jobs and better economic conditions, many African-Americans continue to show support, according to opinion polls.
Yet we're the racists?

FOD 2016.01.11

As we all know, obama recently wasted his time and ours with a staged town hall on CNN where he discussed guns in America. The whole thing was a sham, of course. Expecting a fair and balanced discussion of this topic from that particular person and that particular network is like expecting to win the Powerball lottery this week - it's theoretically possible, but the odds are astronomically against it.

In case you're bored, or a masochist, the transcript of the town hall is available here. Below are a couple of typical excerpts that highlight the lack of logic and common sense that pervaded barry's performance.
OBAMA: What I've said consistently throughout my presidency is I respect the Second Amendment, I respect the right to bear arms. I respect people who want a gun for self-protection, for hunting, for sportsmanship.
Yeah, right. And if you like you like your healthcare you can keep your healthcare. And your insurance premiums will decrease by $2500. And ISIS is contained. And ... well, you get the idea.

A little while later, the moderator (Anderson Cooper) questioned the effectiveness of obama's proposal to plug the so-called 'gun show loophole.'
COOPER: But they're not buying them at gun shows. Only 1 percent of criminals are buying them at gun shows.
Facts? FACTS?!? Anderson, don't you know that facts have no place in an obama press conference? Especially those that make it clear he's an idiot.

Anyway, here's barry's nonsensical response.
OBAMA: Well, no, but this is what happens. Let's go back to the city of Chicago that has strong gun control laws. And oftentimes, the NRA will point to that as an example and say, see, these things don't work.

Well, the problem is, is that about 30 percent, 40 percent of those guns are coming from Indiana across the border, where there are much laxer laws, and so folks will go to a gun show and purchase a whole bunch of firearms, put them in a van, drive up into ... the South Side of Chicago ... open up the trunk, and those things are for sale.
Three problems with that statement:

1. Regardless of where the guns were bought, it's against the law to sell them in Chicago. Why should we expect criminals who ignore existing laws to obey new ones?

2. If the problems is with guns that are bought in Indiana, why isn't the homicide rate in Indiana equivalent to that in Chicago? Could it be that the problem is criminals, not guns?

3. How many vans do you know that have a trunk? ("...put them in a van...open up the trunk")

I couldn't stomach reading the rest of the transcript. If you're a glutton for self-punishment, feel free. I'm going to wander off and do something more enjoyable - like poking a sharp stick in my eye.

January 20, 2017 can't get here soon enough.

Sunday Funnies 2016.01.10

Congratulations to a recently retired veteran.

You know who you are...

Four retired Navy Chief's are walking down the street window shopping. Then they turn a corner and see a sign that says "Veterans Bar" over the doorway of an entry into an establishment that doesn't look all that well kept up. They look at each other then go in. On the inside, they realize in this case, they could judge the 'book by it's cover'.

The old bartender says in a voice that carries across the room, "Come on in and let me pour one for you! What'll it be, gentlemen?" There seems to be a fully stocked bar so the men all ask for a martini. In short time the bartender serves up 4 iced martinis - shaken not stirred and says, "That'll be 40 cents, please."

The four Chiefs stare at the bartender for a moment then look at each other - they can't believe their good luck. They pay the 40 cents, finish their martinis and order another round.

Again, four excellent martinis are produced with the bartender again saying, "That's 40 more cents, please." They pay the 40 cents but their curiosity is more than they can stand. They've each had two martinis and so far they've spent less than a dollar. Finally one of the men says, "How can you afford to serve martinis as good as these for a dime a piece?"

The bartender replies, "No doubt you've noticed the decor in here. And the outside ain't nothin' to write home about. I don't waste money on that stuff. But, here's my story. I'm a retired Master Chief Boatswain's Mate and I always wanted to own a bar. Last year I hit the lottery for $45 million and decided to open this place for real veterans. Every drink costs a dime -- wine, liquor, beer, all the same."

"Wow. That's quite a story." says one of the men. The four of them sipped at their martinis and couldn't help but notice three other guys at the end of the bar who didn't have a drink in front of them and hadn't ordered anything the whole time they were there.

One man finished his martini and, gestured at the three at the end of the bar without drinks and asks the bartender, "What's with them?"

The bartender says, "Oh, those are retired Marines. They're waiting for happy hour."

The old Navy chief finally retired and got that chicken ranch he always wanted. He took with him his life-long pet parrot.

The first morning at 0430, the parrot squawked loudly and said, "Reveille, Reveille. Up all hands, Heave out, trice up! The smoking lamp is lit, now Reveille!"

The old chief told the parrot, "We are no longer in the Navy. Go back to sleep."

The next morning, the parrot did the same thing.

Chief told the parrot, "If you keep this up, I'll put your feathered ass out in the chicken pen."

Again the parrot did it, and true to his word, the Chief put the parrot in the chicken pen.

About 0630 the next morning, the Chief was awakened by one heck of a ruckus in the chicken pen. He went out to see what was the matter.

The parrot had about 40 white chickens at attention -- in formation. On the ground lay three bruised and beaten brown chickens. The parrot was saying, "By God, when I say fall out in dress whites, I don't mean khakis!"

The Army found it had too many officers and senior enlisted men. It was decided to offer an early retirement bonus. Any officer or senior enlisted man who volunteered for retirement was promised a bonus of $1,000 for every inch measured in a straight line between any two points in his body. Those applying got to choose what those two points would be.

The first officer who accepted asked that he be measured from the top of his head to the tip of his toes. He was measured at six feet and walked out with a bonus of $72,000.

The second officer who accepted was a little smarter and asked to be measured from the tip of his outstretched hands to his toes. He walked out with $96,000.

The third one was a non-commissioned officer, a grizzled old First Sergeant who, when asked where he would like to be measured replied, "From the tip of my weenie to my testicles."

It was suggested by the pension man that he might want to reconsider, explaining about the nice big checks the previous two officers had received.

But the old soldier insisted and they decided to go along with him, providing the measurement was taken by a medical officer. The medical officer arrived and instructed the First Sergeant Major to "drop 'em," which he did. The medical officer placed the tape measure on the tip of his weenie and began to work back. "Dear Lord!" he suddenly exclaimed, "Where are your testicles?"

The old Sergeant Major calmly replied, "Afghanistan."

Tom was in his early 50's, retired and started a second career. However, he just couldn't seem to get to work on time. Every day he was 5, 10, 15 minutes late. But he was a good worker, real sharp, so the Boss was in a quandary about how to deal with it. Finally, one day he called him into the office for a talk.

"Tom, I have to tell you, I like your work ethic, you do a bang-up job, but you're being late so often is quite bothersome."

"Yes, I know Boss, and I am working on it."

"Well good, you are a team player. That's what I like to hear. It's odd though, you're coming in late. I know you're retired from the Air Force. What did they say if you came in late there?"

"They said, "Good morning, General."

This Is Where We Are Headed

Obama issues executive order outlawing criticism of executive orders
In a sweeping move, President Obama has used an executive order to outlaw all criticism of executive orders.

“With this equal and legal measure, which fairly silences both favorable and negative criticism, I will finally be able to direct the executive and get some peace and quiet around here,” said Obama.

A super-relaxed Obama said he wishes he would have thought of it sooner.

At press time, no one had anything to say about the order.

Odds And Ends

A few random thoughts...

Beware of Armed SUVs

I posted earlier about the tragic shooting of a young lady who was serving as the designated driver on New Years Eve. One of the points I made was the reluctance of media outlets to identify the race of the suspects. I mocked them by suggesting if they're going to leave out race, they should leave out gender as well.
The media reported the color of the SUV. Why is that fact relevant, but the color of the suspects not relevant? If we're going to neglect to report race, why don't we ignore gender as well?
"a black Lexus SUV occupied by five or six people..."
That's much better. It may not help police track down the suspects, but at least it won't offend anyone.
Evidently USA Today pays attention to what I say. In fact, they went one step farther and left out any mention of people at all.
Mutschlechner, a junior at the University of North Texas, was driving her friends home early Friday morning when a black SUV fired multiple shots, striking Mutschlechner in the head... (emphasis added)
I know self-driving cars are being developed, but I had no idea they had reached the point where a vehicle could fire multiple shots.

One question: is it racist to say the SUV was black?

A Glimpse Of Our Future?

You may have heard of the planned and coordinated New Years Eve attacks on German women "by gangs of men described by the authorities as having “a North African or Arabic” appearance." If not, here's a quick synopsis.
The tensions simmering beneath Germany’s willingness to take in one million migrants blew into the open on Tuesday after reports that scores of young women in Cologne had been groped and robbed on New Year’s Eve by gangs of men described by the authorities as having “a North African or Arabic” appearance.

Taking advantage of the New Year’s Eve street party, hundreds of young men broke into groups and formed rings around young women, refusing to let them escape, the authorities said. Some groped victims while others stole wallets or cellphones.

In Hamburg, the police said 10 women had reported that they were sexually assaulted and robbed in a similar fashion on the same night.
I won't go into much detail here (you can find more here and here). I will, however, make two quick points.

First, if you think our media is timid when it comes to reporting news about 'protected classes' (minorities, women, gays, liberals, etc.), wrap your head around this.
The assaults initially were not highlighted by the police and were largely ignored by the German news media in the days afterward...
The assaults set off accusations on the right and among some political commentators that the authorities and the news media had tried to ignore or cover up the attacks to avoid fueling a backlash against the refugees.
Gee, ya think?

Second, what does a good liberal do when there is a conflict between two protected classes - in this case, 'refugees' and women?

Answer: when in doubt, blame the victim.
The Mayor of Cologne says women should adopt a “code of conduct” to prevent future attacks following trouble on New Year's eve when women in the city centre were subjected to sexual assaults by hundreds of men.
I guess those women were just asking for it.

Escape From Chicago

One of my favorite movies is an old Kurt Russel flick titled "Escape from New York." In the movie, in a grim depressing future, Manhattan Island has been turned into a giant prison colony, surrounded by walls, fences, and armed guards.

It may be time to do that with Chicago.
Chicago is on fire. It’s America’s mass shooting capital. Its deadliest neighborhoods are gang territories prowled by thousands of killers with some of the highest murder rates in the world.
How did this happen?
The last Republican mayor of Chicago was born shortly after the Civil War...
Chicago Democrats are closely entangled with its 68,000 gang members who deliver the votes and the money. There are more gang members in Chicago than people of English ancestry. That makes them a powerful voting bloc. And Democrats bow to their wishes.

A Latin Kings member described how the vote organizing worked. “Every chapter had to vote for that guy… That was a direct order. That means you can’t say no.” Under the Dems, that’s Chicago democracy.

Chicago Democrats ritualistically demand gun control, but carefully avoid cracking down on their own political base. Obama calls for “common sense solutions” after every shooting, but like a good Chicago Democrat he voted against a 1999 bill to try anyone carrying out a shooting in school as an adult. Under Obama, Federal gun-crime prosecutions in Chicago have became as rare as honest Chicago Democrats.
What does the future hold?
Chicago’s population has been falling since the 50s. 200,000 fled between 2000 and 2010. Tens of thousands of homes stand vacant. In some neighborhoods 1 in 6 homes are empty. And with an underwater mortgage rate that hovers around 20 percent, they’ll soon have plenty of company.

Chicago’s bonds are already junk. If the radical wing of the welfare party gets its way, they’ll be toilet paper. If the moderate wing stays in power, they’ll still be toilet paper, but it’ll take longer.
Of course, the same thing is happening in other cities under long-term democrat control - Baltimore, Washington D.C., Detroit, and more, but Chicago is the bloodiest.

And the one most in need of a wall.

Finally, Some Good News

Struggling with that New Years resolution to lose weight and get in shape? Yeah, me too. But there is hope on the horizon.

A Glass Of Red Wine Is The Equivalent To An Hour At The Gym, Says New Study
Research conducted by the University of Alberta in Canada has found that health benefits in resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, are similar to those we get from exercise.

Discussion over the health benefits of red wine have been well documented. Studies have revealed that those who drink a glass of red wine a day are less likely to develop dementia or cancer, that it's good for your heart, anti-ageing and can regulate blood sugar.

And now there's research backing that fact that it boosts heart rate? This is literally the best thing ever.
Don't get too excited, however. The study goes on to say that it only applies to one glass of red wine per day, and that so far only the effects on lab rats have been studied.

Nevertheless, I believe that the science is settled. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to engage in several hours of 'exercise'...

Another Year-In-Review List

I said earlier that I wasn't going to post Year-in-Review lists, but given all the Sturm und Drang building over the impending obama war on guns, I thought y'all might find this one interesting.

The 5 Best-Selling Guns of 2015

First, a few general comments. This is not about the 'best' guns (however you define that). It is about the most popular ones, as defined by sales reported by GunBroker.com. The list is also driven by a hot trend in 2015 firearm sales - the growing popularity of semi-autos designed for concealed carry. In response to that trend, the person who compiled the list limited it to the five best-selling new, semi-automatic pistols. (Hey, I'm to lazy to do all that work. I'm just happy to piggy-back off someone else's efforts).

Speaking of which, the methodology behind the list is simple. The author took GunBroker's monthly lists of gun sales, arbitrarily assigned points values for each place on the list (5 points for first, four for second, etc.), and then tallied up the results. Not the most sophisticated methodology, but again, I'm too lazy to do it myself. So take this list for what it's worth: an interesting, but not necessarily comprehensive, perspective on 2015's best-selling new semi-autos. Enjoy, and discuss freely among yourselves.

Fourth Place (tie): Smith & Wesson M&P9 and Sig Sauer P938. Neither gun landed in the top spot over the course of the year, but the models were gun buyers' second and third choices most often. The M&P9 is Smith & Wesson's direct challenge to Glock in the low-cost polymer frame segment and its lightweight design has helped the gunmaker enjoy tremendous growth as handgun sales have taken off.

In contrast, Sig Sauer's P938 is a hammer-fired, single-action semi-auto, with aluminum alloy frame and steel slide. It's super-lightweight and designed for concealed carry.

Third Place: Smith & Wesson M&P9 Shield. This is S&W's answer to the concealed-carry gun niche that is exploding. So popular are its Shield models that during the second quarter the gunmaker produced its one millionth model, which it says makes it "the best-selling personal protection and self-defense pistol" on the market.

Second Place: Taurus PT-111 Millenium G2. Yet another gun designed for the concealed carry market, the Taurus PT-111 is available in 9mm and built on a lightweight polymer platform in a subcompact form factor. Its appearance on the list would surprise many gun enthusiasts, but the fact it was the favorite gun four months in a row probably raised even more eyebrows, though it also attested to the gun's meeting a specific need in the market.

First Place: Kel Tec PMR-30. This might not have been the gun many would have expected to top the list, but the Kel Tec PMR-30 dominated sales at GunBroker.com this year, coming in first place more times than any other model (five), and regularly being a gun buyer's second or third choice. The Kel Tec was also on the top-five list more often than any other model (eight), and unlike Smith & Wesson, Ruger, or Sig Sauer, which each had three different models appear at any time over the course of the year, it was only the Kel Tec PMR-30 that gun buyers wanted.
FWIW, I own one gun on this list: a Taurus PT-111 Millenium. I bought it back in 2009, in response to another predicted obama gun grab. I also bought it after shooting one a friend owned. Hers fit my hand nicely, shot well, had a nice, crisp trigger break with very little take-up, and was reasonably accurate. Fun to shoot and it put holes where I aimed - what else could you ask for?

Unfortunately, the one I bought turned out to be a bit of a disappointment, mainly due to its long trigger take-up and mushy break. No complaints regarding accuracy or reliability. I've been meaning to take it to a gunsmith for a trigger job, but retirement has kept me so busy (*cough, cough*) I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I'm also putting off the  gunsmith visit pending resolution of the Taurus recall settlement. Depending on the details, I may end up paying to fix it myself rather than depend on the tender mercies of Taurus customer service, which even in the best of times has a spotty reputation. In the meantime, I carry one of several .38 revolvers, depending on where I'm going, what I'm wearing and other assorted circumstances. When I travel I usually take along my personal favorite: a Springfield XD in .45ACP. Stopping power plus high capacity magazines - what's not to like? An added bonus is the sticker on the side of the case it came in: "Not legal in California." Gives me a tingle down my leg every time I see it.

Speaking of obama's war on guns, here's an illustration of the 'logic' running through barry's mind as he schemes to undermine the Second Amendment.

Just The Facts, Ma'am

Here's a sad and troubling story from the weekend that hit a little close to home.
A University of North Texas student who was a designated driver on New Year’s Eve died Friday after being shot while behind the wheel, police said.

Sara Mutschlechner, 20, was taken off life support Friday evening at Denton Regional Medical Center, a police spokesman said.
The young lady - the victim - is the daughter of a friend of a friend. I don't know them, but I certainly feel for them. There are many similarities between Sara Mutschlechner and our daughter; about the same age, young women off at college, responsible and caring young people who do the right things, etc. But what I find troubling, aside from the tragic and senseless loss of life, is how the story was reported. Here's the rest of this particular version.
She was found by officers about 2 a.m. Friday in the 1700 block of North Elm St., lying outside the sedan she had been driving.

The car had crashed into an electric pole, said officer Shane Kizer, a police spokesman.

Witnesses told police that a black Lexus SUV occupied by “five or six black males” drove up next to the sedan and “several words were exchanged” between people in both vehicles, Kizer said. As the two vehicles crossed University Drive, someone in the SUV fired at Mutschlechner, police said.

She was struck in the head, and the car hit another vehicle before crashing. The SUV fled, police said.
Here's how the story was reported in several other news outlets (this particular one is from ABC 'News').
Denton police say the gunman was in a black Lexus SUV occupied by five or six men.
Notice what detail was left out.
From the first report: "a black Lexus SUV occupied by five or six black males..."
From other reports: "a black Lexus SUV occupied by five or six men..."
This isn't about racism. It's about reporting relevant facts that might help identify the perpetrators.

Have we become so scared of racial issues that we no longer have the courage to include the race of suspects in their descriptions?

I fear the answer is "Yes..."

Sunday Funnies 2016.01.03

The last few days have been an orgy of college football bowl games. Here's some thoughts on my favorite teams...

Q: What do the Oklahoma Sooners and marijuana have in common?
A: They both get smoked in bowls!

Q. Whats the difference between Oklahoma and cheerios?
A. One belongs in a bowl. The other doesn't!

Q: What does an Oklahoma fan do after his team wins a bowl game?
A: He turns off the Playstation.

Q: What's the difference between an Oklahoma Sooners fan and a baby?
A: The baby will stop whining after a while.

Q. Why do they sell so many button-fly jeans in College Station (home of the Texas Aggies)?
A. Because the sheep can hear the zippers a mile away.

Q: Why did the Aggie marry the cow?
A: He had to.

Q: How do you compliment an Arkansas Razorback fan?
A: Nice tooth.

Q: What does the Louisiana Department of Waste do when it is through with a garbage truck?
A: Clean it, paint it, and sell it to a Razorback as a Winnebago.

Q: What is 100 yards long and has 30 teeth?
A: The front row at an Arkansas home game.

Q: How do you make University of Notre Dame cookies?
A: Put them in a big Bowl and beat for 3 hours.

Q. Why were Alabama fans late for the Cotton Bowl?
A. Because every time they passed a sign that said "Clean Restrooms," they did.

Q: What do you call 20 Alabama fans skydiving from an airplane?
A: Skeet.

Q: Why do the Texas Tech cheerleaders wear bibs?
A: To keep the tobacco juice off their uniforms.

Q: What is one thing you will never hear an Oregon fan say?
A: I have reviewed your application...

The Seven Dwarfs were marching through the forest one day they fell in a deep, dark ravine. Snow White, who was following along, peered over the edge of the steep chasm and called out to the fallen dwarfs. From the depths of the dark hole a voice returned, "The Oklahoma Sooners are national championship contenders."

Snow White thought to herself, "Thank God... at least Dopey's survived!"

An insurance salesman was in the Alabama backwoods calling on customers when he came across a house behind a large field. Making his way to the home he noticed a man in the field getting it on with a sheep. The sight disgusted him but he proceeded to the house.

The salesman knocked on the door. A young boy answered, "Can I help ya mister?"

"Well, to be honest with you, I am here to sell you insurance but on the way in, I noticed a stranger in your field harassing one of your sheep!"

"Its okay," said the boy, "That's just my daaaaad."

The Year In Review - Sort Of

It's that time when all sorts of "Year in Review" articles and lists are published. I'm not going to post them here, because (1) they're just about everywhere you look, and (2) I'm lazy. But I will post one, because I found it especially amusing.

I've given up expecting any semblance of 'fair and balanced' reporting in today's media. But one would hope they could at the bare minimum get their facts right. And if they don't, they should publish a correction in a manner (prominence and location) similar to the original story. Everyone makes mistakes - God knows I make more than my share. But when I do, and when I find out about it, I try to make it right. Media outlets, however, are notorious for burying their 'corrections' in small print on an inside page, or somewhere else equally inconspicuous. As the following shows, maybe that's because the original mistake is so ridiculous they don't want to draw further attention to it.

So without further ado, here's my Top 10 list of all-time absurd media corrections.

What a difference an "n" makes.
“Reporter Amanda Hess, in a story published Monday, acknowledges she wrongly wrote that ‘one in three black men who have sex with me is HIV positive.’ In fact, the statistic applies to black men ‘who have sex with men.’” --- Washington Citypaper.
That's his second job.
“In the September profile of Chelsea Clinton, ‘Waiting in the Wings’ by Jonathan Van Meter, Dan Baer was mistakenly identified as an interior designer. He is deputy assistant secretary for the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the U.S. Department of State.” --- Vogue magazine.
I'd love to hear the story behind this story.
“A column by Glenn Garvin on Dec. 20 stated that the National Science Foundation ‘funded a study on Jell-O wrestling at the South Pole.’ That is incorrect. The event took place during off-duty hours without NSF permission and did not involve taxpayer funds.” --- Miami Herald.
What's 450 years among friends.
“Correction: An earlier version of this article misidentified the number of years E.B. White wrote for The New Yorker. It was five decades, not centuries.” ---The New York Times.
Are you sure the first one is wrong?
“A Bloody Mary recipe…called for 12 ounces of vodka and 36 ounces of tomato juice. The recipe as printed incorrectly reversed the amounts, calling for 36 ounces of vodka and 12 ounces of tomato juice.” --- Wall Street Journal.
That's three beers more than it takes me.
“This post originally quoted photographer Tom Sanders as saying it takes him five years to get on the dance floor. It takes him five beers.” Slate magazine.
Must have been divine intervention.
“Karol Wojtyla was referred to in Saturday’s Credo column as “the first non-Catholic pope for 450 years”. This should, of course, have read “non-Italian pope.” ---London Times.
He'd have more credibility as an author of erotic novels.
“An article on Monday about a recall election facing Colorado lawmakers who supported gun-control legislation referred incorrectly to one of the Republican challengers expected to face John Morse, the State Senate president, on the ballot. The candidate, Bernie Herpin, is a former city councilman, not an author of erotic novels.” --- New York Times.
This error could be applied to the entire set of politicians.
“An Oct. 1 editorial referred to Washington state Rep. Cathy McMorris, R-Colville as a ‘classy candidate.’ This page regrets the error.” --- Lewiston Morning Tribune.
The next one is actually #11, but it's in a class of its own, so I felt is was appropriate to include it with a Top 10 list. If there is much of an outcry I'll publish a correction ... at some point ... in some format...
“The Ottawa Citizen and Southam News wish to apologize for our apology to Mark Steyn, published Oct. 22. In correcting the incorrect statements about Mr. Steyn published Oct. 15, we incorrectly published the incorrect correction. We accept and regret that our original regrets were unacceptable.” --- Ottawa Citizen and Southam News.
I couldn't have said it better myself.

To wrap things up, here's a classic typo in a photograph caption.

That must have been really painful.

Happy New Year 2016

My wife and I are at that stage of life where we prefer to spend a quiet evening at home as opposed to going out for New Year's Eve.

No, not that kind of evening at home. Did I mention that we're old...?

We just kicked back, drank a little champagne, and watched some football. You know - old, boring, married people stuff.

Our kids, on the other hand, had places to go, people to see, and parties to attend. Fortunately, both of them are responsible enough that they made arrangements ahead of time to spend the night at their respective parties.

I hope your New Year's Eve was as satisfying as ours. Best wishes to you and yours for a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous 2016!
