(With apologies to Mac Davis)
Short post this a.m. because I had a long day yesterday.
I am now officially retired.
I finished out-processing Tuesday (more on that later).
Wednesday was devoted to packing, cleaning, moving, and unpacking. Started before 8:00 a.m., finished after 8:00 p.m..
Did I mention that my Laredo apartment was on the second floor, and that most of the stuff I brought back home went on the second floor of our house?
My knee is screaming bloody murder (three operations on it will do that), my back is yelling almost as much (61 years will do that), and my wife is muttering loudly (a newly retired husband will do that).
As she put it, "I now have twice the husband and half the income. Where's that bottle of wine?"
But I'm happier than a liberal working for the IRS...

Heh, congratulations Sir! :-) Tee time is 0700...
Welcome to "Fantastic Life of Leisure club" from one who retired at 53.
Yup, when my much younger wife whispered in my ear: "Guess who's pregnant?" and the company I was employed by for many years were offering golden parachutes I made the leap from a 40 hour a week program designer and implementer to a full fledged "stay home daddy" at 53.
So for the past 18 years I've been relaxing in the comfort of a leisurely retirement.
At first it wasn't too bad. Changing diapers, heating formula, dealing with various colored and fragrant material emanating from both ends of an infant while trying to wash and iron cloths between cutting the grass and food shopping was a breeze.
Soon it was off to school. Phew, no more diapers.
Now at the ripe old age of 70 with an 18 year old daughter ready for college I have to get out and find a job to pay for her tuition so she can get a degree in accounting and a PhD in law so she can get a job with the IRS.
AH, Life is good.
PS: Congratulations CTT on your retirement, I may stop in for a couple of beers after my tax audit.
Congrats Tim!!
I am jealous. Unfortunatley I have another 15 or so before my day comes, (if ever), but I love to hear it is still possible.
"liberal working for the IRS" bwahahahaha....ummm. Well done!
NFO - thanks, but I prefer a little later tee time. Say around 8:30...
Toejam - Don't worry. Just work for two years and then collect unemployment. Plus under obama your daughter's student loans will be forgiven.
Drop by anytime for a cold one. I have a couple of rocking chairs on the front porch. We can shake our canes at the neighborhood kids and tell them to get off the lawn.
Jeff - Hang in there. I didn't even start thinking about retiring until a couple of years ago, even though I was planning for it for much longer. Those 15 years went by quick, but the last two absolutely crawled.
I hope to be retired when I am as old as you.
Just poking fun at you, Tim! Congrats, enjoy, and stay out of your wife's way.
Congratulations on your new full time job...retirement. It might take up to a year but you'll find yourself busier than ever and wonder how you managed to the chores and work at the time.
All I can say is enjoy it! Don't ruin it by going back to work. :-)
Mel.
Wanted to post yesterday but Harper's storm blew my underground drop line and modem.
Harper - thanks for the good thoughts. Although why doesn't she have to stay out of my way...?
Mel - glad you're okay. Harper's always messing things up for people.
Thanks for the positive vibes. I don't doubt I'll have plenty to do - and I have NO plans on going back to work.
