FOD 2016.01.11

As we all know, obama recently wasted his time and ours with a staged town hall on CNN where he discussed guns in America. The whole thing was a sham, of course. Expecting a fair and balanced discussion of this topic from that particular person and that particular network is like expecting to win the Powerball lottery this week - it's theoretically possible, but the odds are astronomically against it.

In case you're bored, or a masochist, the transcript of the town hall is available here. Below are a couple of typical excerpts that highlight the lack of logic and common sense that pervaded barry's performance.
OBAMA: What I've said consistently throughout my presidency is I respect the Second Amendment, I respect the right to bear arms. I respect people who want a gun for self-protection, for hunting, for sportsmanship.
Yeah, right. And if you like you like your healthcare you can keep your healthcare. And your insurance premiums will decrease by $2500. And ISIS is contained. And ... well, you get the idea.

A little while later, the moderator (Anderson Cooper) questioned the effectiveness of obama's proposal to plug the so-called 'gun show loophole.'
COOPER: But they're not buying them at gun shows. Only 1 percent of criminals are buying them at gun shows.
Facts? FACTS?!? Anderson, don't you know that facts have no place in an obama press conference? Especially those that make it clear he's an idiot.

Anyway, here's barry's nonsensical response.
OBAMA: Well, no, but this is what happens. Let's go back to the city of Chicago that has strong gun control laws. And oftentimes, the NRA will point to that as an example and say, see, these things don't work.

Well, the problem is, is that about 30 percent, 40 percent of those guns are coming from Indiana across the border, where there are much laxer laws, and so folks will go to a gun show and purchase a whole bunch of firearms, put them in a van, drive up into ... the South Side of Chicago ... open up the trunk, and those things are for sale.
Three problems with that statement:

1. Regardless of where the guns were bought, it's against the law to sell them in Chicago. Why should we expect criminals who ignore existing laws to obey new ones?

2. If the problems is with guns that are bought in Indiana, why isn't the homicide rate in Indiana equivalent to that in Chicago? Could it be that the problem is criminals, not guns?

3. How many vans do you know that have a trunk? ("...put them in a van...open up the trunk")

I couldn't stomach reading the rest of the transcript. If you're a glutton for self-punishment, feel free. I'm going to wander off and do something more enjoyable - like poking a sharp stick in my eye.

January 20, 2017 can't get here soon enough.

Wish they would run him out of office now. The guy deserves a cell not a presidential pension.
