Snakes Alive

It was a pretty warm day here yesterday. High temp was around 93, but the humidity was tolerable. It cooled off nicely in the evening, so my wife and I went outside to sit on the back porch and enjoy an adult beverage or two.

Imagine the shock and awe we experienced when we turned around and noticed this fellow joining us.

As you can see, he's right next to the back porch door. We walked right past him and sat down just below him before my wife noticed him. Needless to say, excitement ensued.

As near as we can tell it was a harmless variety, although my heart might beg to disagree. There's something about a 5 foot long snake hovering over your head that gets the pulse rate up.

Anyway, we fled one way, he went another, and the consumption of adult beverages went up.

Great way to start the weekend...

Wouldn't Texas hospitality dictate you offer him an adult beverage?

maybe a Shiner prickly pear would be in order (for you). Looks like a king snake, scary, but very good.

That snake is way to close to civilization and must be put to death.

ROTF... I can 'imagine' the excitement... But at least you know your heart's good now!!!

Randy - It's funny now, but at the time... not so much.

WSF - good point! :-)

Rob - As near as we could tell it was a Texas Indigo snake - one of the good ones, like king snakes.

BB - C'mon now, not all snakes are bad. This one eats rodents and rattlesnakes. That makes him good to have around.

NFO - it certainly passed the stress test!
