Friday Follies Happy Hour 2011-11-11

Today we honor our nation's veterans. Please take a moment (actually, about 6 minutes) to watch this video. For those of you of a certain age, it will bring back a host of memories. It might also help if you have a handkerchief nearby.

My God, how young we were...

This is the song that opened my mind and is the only reason I don't cringe at the sound of country music anymore. I used to hate, I mean HATE country. It's a long story, but for 5 years at a job I once had it was on the radio 24/7/365.

An ex-girlfriend would put it on the local country station when we would do road trips, etc. and I would be able to handle it for about 1 song before I turned it off. At the time, no music at all was better than country music.

Until she played this song one day. Knowing that I'm interested in all things military and all things related to wars, especially Vietnam, she gave me a little background on the song before she played it. For some reason, I was sold from there and allowed more to be absorbed to where I at least don't have to turn it off when I hear it.

I was born, and will forever me a rock n roll/metal/punk kind of guy, but my range is getting bigger every year.

Great pick, and God bless those who serve this country so I can have the choice to listen or not listen to what I want...
