They're Coming To Take Me Away

I've been vaguely aware of various reports here and there that say the obama administration has categorized people as potential terrorists in what appears to be a move to intimidate anyone opposed to obama and his policies. For example:
...a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) program dubbed Operation Vigilant Eagle tracks military veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, and characterizes them as extremists and potential domestic terrorist threats because they may be “disgruntled, disillusioned or suffering from the psychological effects of war.” Since launching Operation Vigilant Eagle, the government has steadily ramped up its campaign to “silence” dissidents, especially those with military backgrounds. Coupled with the DHS’ dual reports on Rightwing and Leftwing “Extremism,” which broadly define extremists as individuals, military veterans and groups “that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely,” these tactics have boded ill for anyone seen as opposing the government.
I plead guilty to not according such reports the serious attention they deserve. In my defense, I can only claim that I have been overwhelmed by the number and absurdity of the policies and actions taken by the federal government over the past six years to such an extent that I have become numb. It's incrementalism at its best - the 'frog in the boiling pot of water' theory.

But I recently ran across an article that opened my eyes to a shocking realization. It dramatically illustrates the extent to which Big Brother, in the guise of the federal government, views ordinary citizens like you and me as potential terrorists.

The 72 Types Of Americans That Are Considered “Potential Terrorists” In Official Government Documents
Are you a conservative, a libertarian, a Christian or a gun owner?  Are you opposed to abortion, globalism, Communism, illegal immigration, the United Nations or the New World Order?  Do you believe in conspiracy theories, do you believe that we are living in the “end times” or do you ever visit alternative news websites (such as this one)?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you are a “potential terrorist” according to official U.S. government documents.
Also included on the list is anyone concerned about illegal immigration, anyone who believes in the right to keep and bear arms, and those that display the Gadsden Flag ("Don't Tread On Me").

Conspicuously missing is the phrase "Islamic extremist."

I think I have you beat, though not knowing how they define 'activism', 'mainstream', etc., probably skews the actual count. At least I will be in good company when they lock us up.

With a weak President, the crazies really come out. I remember Janet Reno lumped homeschoolers in with cults - that was during the time of Waco and Ruby Ridge.

Only 34 of 72, but I'm a slacker.

Harper - There is a lot of room for interpretation. I probably undercounted - especially considering some of the subsequent comments.

BB - Anytime anyone does something outside the mainstream - like homeschooling - they're considered whackos.

WSF and Randy - there is room for improvement... :-)
