A Story For Our Times

It's late, I'm tired, and there's a lot going on behind the scenes around here. So don't expect much today.

This story has been floating around the Internet for a few days. You may have seen it already, but I'm posting it as a perfect example of what is, in my opinion, the biggest problem with the liberal/progressive philosophy. In their zeal to make everyone and everything equal, libs/progs are dragging down individuals and groups of achievers to the lowest-common-denominator level of those who can't or won't raise themselves up. That harms both groups, while helping neither. Case in point:
A new set of seating is being torn down outside the Plymouth Wildcats varsity boys' baseball field, not long before the season begins, because the fields for boys' and girls' athletics must be equal.

A group of parents raised money for a raised seating deck by the field, as it was hard to see the games through a chain-link fence. The parents even did the installation themselves, and also paid for a new scoreboard.

But, after a complaint, the U.S Education Department's Office for Civil Rights investigated the new addition and says it must be torn down. It says the facility was no longer equal to the girls' softball field next door, which has old bleachers and an old scoreboard.
Got that? A group of parents, through the investment of their time and efforts, overcame a problem and did something for their sons, their local school, and themselves. It wasn't hurting anyone, and in fact made those involved better off.

Another group - let's call them libs/progs, just for the helluva it - decided that wasn't fair. Rather than improving conditions for their group, they went crying to the government.

"It's not fair," they whined.

"We should get what they have," they pouted.

The federal government, in its infinite wisdom, agreed with the whiners libs/progs.

So now the two groups are equal. The libs/progs are no better off, and the other group is worse off.

And somewhere, some imbecile is feeling very smug and self-righteous about the outcome.

And our beloved country continues its downward spiral...
