Chicago's police superintendent lashed out at what he called lax state and federal gun laws after a violent Fourth of July weekend that saw more than 60 people shot and nine killed in a city already known for frequent shootings.Mere possession of a loaded firearm - and really, of what use would an unloaded firearm be - shouldn't, of course, be a crime. However illegal use of a firearm, or possession by a convicted felon, should be harshly punished. But that has nothing to do with 'lax' gun laws, and everything to do with a criminal justice system overrun by liberals and Eric Holder-types.
Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, reciting the criminal histories of several of the suspects in this weekend's violence, noted gang members face tougher consequences for losing their guns from their gangs than from authorities.
"Possession of a loaded firearm -- it's not even considered a violent felony in the state of Illinois for sentencing purposes -- which is why you see the revolving door," he said.
Among the suspects: a man wanted in connection with a murder who has 21 prior arrests, and another with six previous arrests, including one this year for aggravated assault for discharging a weapon. How either one of them is out walking around is beyond me. But again, that's a failure of the criminal justice system, not gun laws.
"How this individual is out on bond is beyond me," McCarthy said.
The holiday shootings follow a week in which Chicago had 52 shooting incidents, according to Police Department statistics. This year, as of June 29, Chicago police had recorded 880 shooting incidents, an average of nearly five a day.The problem, of course, isn't gun laws. It's a cultural thing - a breakdown of family and civilized values in one of this country's largest cities.
Don't think so? Take a look at the chart below.

82 shot, 14 dead- 'new' numbers... sigh
Geez - and I'm sure the MSM will ignore the case where a firearm was used in self defense...
It doesn't take a genius to see that the Liberal's are determined to disarm all citizens.
It's like giving lethal doses of a Cancer drug to every person in the country, thus killing them in the belief that the Cancer will cease to be a threat.
How can intellegent people support this theory?
My sister thinks that by banning all guns in America that'll stop all killing......Sorry to say: my sister, who left High School to work her entire career in "steno pools" for several large companies is at 69 years nothing by a brain-dead drone and has the reasoning capacity of a certified MORON!
"How can intellegent people support this theory? "
They've been conditioned by the media and public schools to spend no more than 30 seconds 'thinking' about an issue. If people are getting shot, then banning guns will prevent that. Next problem...
