Happy Birthday USMC

As a warm-up for Veteran's Day, today we celebrate the 236th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

Before the United States was born, there was a Marine Corps.

Founded in Tun Tavern (how fitting!) on Nov. 10, 1775, recruits flocked to the tavern, lured by beer and the opportunity to serve in the new Corps of Marines.

Not much has changed since then. Tun Tavern still lives today. Marines still flock to taverns. And some of America's finest still flock to the Corps (see Meyer, Dakota ).

So Happy Birthday, Marines!
