Yes, as a 73 year old former New Jersey guy I do remember when White, Christian, anglo high school boys named John, Mike or Ralph pumped gas for a few cents an hour in wages.
Now, with no customer allowed by law to pump their gas the "pump Jockey" job is still in existence and the jockeys are still paid lower than MacDonald burger flippers.
But today their names are Muhammad, Abdullah or Ravi.
I was born, raised and spent a number of years working in "The Garden State". You know the spawning ground of Bruce Springsteen and other Eco-nut Liberals.
Suddenly one day, I had an epiphany.....I saw myself holding an AR-15, had a .40 caliber semi-auto handgun strapped on my belt and was standing under the National colors (Stars & Bars)....At that moment I grew up, got smart and moved to the "Tar-heel State."
Heck, I even left NJ so fast I forgot to turn the lights out and lock the door.
Know the job but never had one.

Toejam - I thought it was just NJ and Oregon that prohibited self service gas stations. Don't you live in North Carolina?
