Save Money On A Funeral With A Rental Casket
A rental casket is a good cost-saving option if you want to have a traditional casket at a viewing or funeral but don't want to purchase a casket.Of course, if you're one of those people who don't care what happens after you're gone then you can go ahead and blow a bundle of cash on a fancy casket. But this idea makes a lot of sense to me.
A rental casket is a casket that has a removable interior. The body is placed in a simple wooden box and the box is placed inside the casket, giving the appearance that the body is actually in the casket. In fact, the body never touches the casket, and the wooden box is easily removed after the service. The body can then be buried or cremated in the simple wooden box, and the funeral home can re-use the rental casket.
Purchasing a casket can be a major expense, and many people either don't have the means to pay for a casket or would prefer not to spend such a large sum of money. Using a rental casket can also be seen as an environmentally friendly option, as the rental casket is re-used many times, as opposed to a traditional casket, which is used only once.
However, if you decide that the rent-a-casket route isn't for you, here's some alternatives.

If you're a 'classic car' fan you might enjoy this model.
There's even a pin-up calendar put out by a casket company.

In my transformation from "being" to "non-existence" I'm taking the traditional family route:
I'm getting one of recycled paper like my mommy and daddy had. Cost about $50 and the only reason I'm getting one is the law requires one. No service, right from the location of death to the crematory. No service, no flowers. Request donations to your local A.S.P.C.A.
Here's my current favorite, but that may change when I find one shaped like a wine bottle:

+1 Toejam.
I rented a casket, had her cremated and interned for $400 when I buried my wife. The only reason for the casket was to please her mother.
Agree with all of the above...
Toejam & WSF - Here you go.

Mel - I hope this isn't too insensitive, but I would have gladly paid $400 to get rid of my ex-wife...
NFO - one word for you. Compost.
Thanks CTT,
I'm going contact that Kentucky company soon and have 'em hold me a 90 proof casket.
